1. Overview

AdvaPACS is a fully managed, cloud-native Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) that offers both short and long-term storage and retrieval of medical images and reports.

AdvaPACS's infrastructure and software components are hosted in a remote cloud environment, allowing any modalities or DICOM-compliant services to connect over the internet.

AdvaPACS comprises cloud-services that provide APIs to the on-premise AdvaPACS Gateway that provides the local DICOM connectivity to DICOM nodes. AdvaPACS also provides a cloud-based DICOM node that can be connected to with mutual TLS (mTLS). These enable secure data transmission and facilitate interoperability.

Users interact with the system through the AdvaPACS web application, where they can register an account and manage their own instance of the system.

At a high-level AdvaPACS is one interconnected system of services that work together to form a cohesive imaging platform. Some of the individual components that make up AdvaPACS are;

  • AdvaPACS Web Application is a user interface accessible through a web browser that allows users to manage AdvaPACS and drive workflow.
  • AdvaPACS Gateway is a server application installed in a local network and facilitates the communication between Application Entities and AdvaPACS.
  • AdvaPACS Cloud Gateway allows Application Entities to directly connect with AdvaPACS via mTLS.
  • DICOMweb API allows clients to use QIDO-RS, WADO-RS, WADO-URI and STOW-RS.
